3D Plush Curls Tutorial by Drachefrau 3D Plush Curls Tutorial by Drachefrau
Since I am currently working on 4 Sweetie Belles at once and have pieces all over the place, I thought I'd make a tutorial on how I do my 3D curls. This tutorial assumes that you know the basics of plush sewing and have all the required gear for such an endeavor. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them for you! My apologies for the file size, but any smaller and it would have been hard to see the stitches.

One thing I forgot to add was stuffing the curl itself; DON'T OVERSTUFF 'EM. This will make them hard to bend into position and sew down. At the same time, you want to make sure you have enough stuffing to keep the curl nice and plump so it doesn't look deflated. Firm is bad for curls; full but squishy is perfect. :D

Hope you find this helpful!

would you recommend this for complete curl tails as well? like a cinnamon bun tail?

Hmmm, I'm sure the concept would work with some tweaking. I'd use a flat ribbon-type shape with batting in the middle instead of stuffing; that will fluff it up a bit without making it hard to roll up. :)

this is incredibly useful! I would've never thought about making curls this way.

Thank you! I couldn't think of how else to do them, honestly, and I'm not a fan of flat satin-stitched curl effects. It's more of a pain to do, but it looks so much better. :D
